Where I stand:
I had to decide whether to stay silent or to raise my voice and let it be known what I believe. I don’t like politics, but I abhor injustice more. I really don’t want to look back at this time in our history with regret for staying silent because it was safer. That said…
I stand with the LGBTQ+ community. I stand with Ukraine. The Middle East...I am still recovering from the brutality of October 7, wading through the massive uptick of antisemitism, and am horrified by the massacre of tens of thousands of Palestinians. I am reeling from the gutting of our government and threats to imprison students who peacefully protest—and no, I don't believe that haphazardly cutting thousands of federal jobs is saving us any money, but it will create horrible obstacles the next time there's a massive flood, devastating tornado, or outbreak of fires...and more. So yeah, I believe in climate change. I believe programs like SNAP and Medicaid improve the well-being of our citizens, and in turn, strengthen our country. I believe our education system is a mess and that as long as property taxes determine the quality of education, there will always be inequity—but even with that, I don’t believe that gutting the Department of Education is going to provide better education for our children. And yes, I 100% support DEI. I am afraid that we will enter another pandemic with measles, or the avian flu that is now infecting humans, and question what other viruses are out there that we aren’t even being told about. I am terrified for vulnerable people with disabilities, seniors, veterans, lower income, and those who are undocumented or are people of color who will be racially profiled even more now. I believe in the right to an abortion without question, and no, no doctors are aborting nine-month-old fetuses. I think Joe Biden was a mostly great President until he let his ego get in the way and refused to step down and make Kamala Harris President. I believe in taking each person as an individual before classifying them into an archetype. I think Donald Trump is the Antichrist...and also is in cahoots with Putin. If you voted for him I will still seek to see the light in you, and do my best to remain open to peaceful discussions, but if you threaten or bully me, I will take measures to legally protect myself. I believe that Elon Musk is a self-serving psychopath. I believe RFK Jr. will be responsible for countless deaths. I believe our former Congressman Lee Zeldin is amongst the biggest embarrassments our district has ever empowered, and his successor Nick LaLota is his mini-me (and no, of course, I never voted for either of them!). I believe that by documenting this publicly, I am putting myself in danger...and yet the truth needs to be spoken, especially by a privileged, white, hetero, middle-class person like myself.
I do believe there is a way back to peace—locally and globally. If my music speaks to you, and my beliefs do not, perhaps there is a path here that is more powerful than politicians. Always sending you love, acting with kindness, and continuing to create as long as I can.
